The IEI Tiruvallur Local Centre successfully organized a technical lecture to commemorate World Environment Day on 5th June 2025 at the Seminar Hall, Dr. MGR University, Main Campus. Themed “Beat Plastic Pollution,” the session aimed to raise awareness about the pressing issue of plastic waste and the importance of sustainable environmental practices.

Dr. Sridhar Harikrishnamoorthy, Ph.D., Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Orcci Eco Products, Chennai, served as the keynote speaker. Renowned for his contributions to sustainable product innovation, Dr. Sridhar delivered an insightful presentation on the environmental hazards posed by plastic pollution, highlighting viable eco-friendly alternatives and industry-led initiatives toward plastic reduction.

The 90-minute session, held from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, attracted 75 participants, including engineering students, faculty members, environmental enthusiasts, and professionals committed to sustainability. Attendees explored real-world case studies on sustainable packaging, circular economy models, and green innovations such as bioplastics and waste-to-energy solutions.

Dr. Sridhar emphasized the long-term ecological and health consequences of plastic dependency and shared practical strategies to shift toward a greener, resource-efficient future. The session also shed light on career and research opportunities in environmental science and green entrepreneurship.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Sridhar Harikrishnamoorthy for his impactful presentation and to all attendees for their enthusiastic participation.
